I'm glad other folks have these experiences besides me. Purely for the selfish reason that I appreciate knowing that there are other parents out there with a "What the...?" expression on their faces in various retail establishments.

For the record, mine would read, "Dear Santa's mall elf, Please do not roll up your sleeve and show your 'awesome' Batman tattoo to my already confused about toughness five-year-old. It validates tattoos as an acceptable form of expression...which it is not." Sincerely, Rational Behavior.

In that last line, I meant "...which they are not." I had it written differently at first requiring singularity. Obviously, I changed half of the sentence...oops.
